5I love this refrigerator
By mll7007
We've had this fridge for a few months now and it's forced us to reevaluate food expiration dates. The first thing we noticed was the produce was lasting two to three times longer than in our previous fridge (a 2004 Whirlpool Gold). We just made a salad from two week old lettuce and it was almost as fresh as the day we bought it. Green onions, fresh cilantro, fresh parsley, and cucumbers have all at least doubled their shelf lives. We then began to realize that our deli meats and dairy products were also staying fresh longer. We used to have to throw out the milk within 3-4 days after the sell by date, when it started to smell. I just drank a glass of milk that was 11 days past the sell by date and it tasted and smelled the same as it did the day I opened it. The sliced turkey, ham and sliced cheeses have also been lasting significantly longer. I don't understand it, but it's awesome. Everything else on the fridge has been great. Love the LED lighting, the counter depth, the easily accessible water filter, the in door ice maker, and the bottom drawer freezer. The stainless is a pain to keep clean, but so was our last fridge. I had read reviews on other sites that had complaints about the ice maker jamming. This has happened once to ours in the first week and was a quick fix. I just took out the ice container and banged it on the counter to break up the ice. It hasn't happened again. The counter depth for us has been great. Our previous fridge had gaps on both sides and stuck out farther into the kitchen. This one still leaves a small gap on one side, but is 3 inches shallower while giving us an extra 4.5 cubic feet of storage. The 3 inches doesn't sound like much, but it made a world of difference in the look of our kitchen. The only negative thing I can say about this refrigerator is the high price. I couldn't imagine spending that much money on any appliance, but the wife talked me into it. After using it for a few months, I figure since it's saving us at least $50 per month in food costs, it should pay for itself in a few years. If you're looking for a counter depth fridge that keeps food fresh longer and looks great in your kitchen, this is the way to go.

1It's Going Back
By Worker Bee
My background is fixing restaurant, refrigeration & commercial AC equipment. This review is for the LG LFX25991ST & includes a BACK to BACK comparison with the Samsung counter depth side by side model RSG257AARS/XAA.PROSHighest capacity among the 36" wide french door, counter depth models.Looks good, nice sliding action on the drawers, nice lighting.CONSKnown defect in defrost cycle, this is VERY important; all modern frost free 'fridges enter a defrost cycle to rid itself of frost / ice.Ice is accumulating on the back panel of the freezer, near the evaporator coil & fan. They (LG) tried to engineer a fix but it's only partially effective, they will replace the main circuit board, the new one will have a LONGER defrost cycle (it will now use more energy than what your yellow energyguide sticker said) & change out that back panel which includes two fan motors (one is for the ice maker).Even though our house is always between 30-50% RH ice still accumulates. The compressor has started vibrating, causing bottles & misc items within the fridge to rattle. The leveling system is poor & contributes to make the fridge unnecessarily wobbly when the doors are opened & closed, I made wood shims to help but it doesn't eliminate the wobbles, no matter the surface - I compared on concrete & my kitchen's wood floor. It really gives a flimsy feel for an otherwise nice looking fridge.Controlling proper temps & humidity in the fresh vegetable drawers has been very poor without blocking off cold air ducts.French door design is in vogue but it has a lot going against it...think about this compared to a side-by-side...* You remove the entire contents of your freezer whenever you open it. Hope you don't plan to have that 'fridge in your retirement years. It also exposes all the freezer contents to outside air, moisture in the air quickly turns to frost on your contents & drawer. It requires more effort to find things in the freezer which tend to be buried like a chest & you are in a hunched over position looking for them.* The freezer drawer sliders are more complex than a simple hinged door, they carry a lot of weight & break much more frequently. Simply pulling from the side of the pull handle (asymmetrical force) instead of the center can cause the drawer to go off kilter & make trouble.* There's more gasket surfaces meaning more areas that can leak or for condensate & mold to form on, plus a cheesy center partition that can develop condensation (because it's not heated) & is susceptible to failure.* In order to have ice in the door the ice maker is in the refrigerator section so it's not uncommon for ice to partially melt & clump together causing dispenser jams. A separate ice maker fan forces freezer air via ducts to the ice maker - not the best engineering to go about making & delivering ice - more stuff to go wrong. The SBS actually has the ice & ice maker in the freezer, BRILLIANT!* MANY times it is necessary to open BOTH doors to get something out when it used to be only one. Organization is not that good in these.Three service calls & LG has agreed to replace - our point of purchase is getting a full credit from LG & we can now pick another brand/model from them - we are going back to a SBS. The irony is we're as happy to get away from this fridge as we were when we got it! :^)UPDATEWe've only had the new replacement, a 24.5 cubic foot Samsung SBS model RSG257AARS/XAA for a few days so this is only an early impression but we do like it MUCH better. Now this is IMPORTANT & something other reviewers CAN"T comment on...We've had BOTH fridges loaded with the same groceries BACK to BACK & the difference is HUGE...PROSMUCH BETTER use of space, we transferred everything out of the 3/4 full LG, put it in the Samsung & it was AMAZINGLY less full AND better organized. Plus, enough room for all the condiments AND a gallon of milk in the door (not so with the LG). Space is a BIG deal when considering a counter depth fridge, we would have never believed it without owning both but the Samsung side by side EXCELS IN SPADES over the LG FD!Everything is easier to ACCESS, the difference is not slight, we are happy to ditch the "French door" style, ooo-la-la, good rid-dens.Exterior door display is MUCH easier on the eyes at night. Two out of three people say it looks better, the third (me) is undecided. Can place it more flush against the back wall, per the mfrs spec, this is partly due to how it draws condenser air, the Samsung draws air from the front & the side ensuring that heated condenser air isn't recirculated, the LG draws & discharges condenser air from the back, so you will definitely get recirculated condenser air if you're placing against a wall especially so in an alcove. Samsung includes a flat angled type wall plug on the power cord so you push it back further if your receptacle is behind the fridge.Quieter - vibrates & is noisy at initial start (warm box) but completely acceptable when temps are at normal operation. Ice dropping into bin (especially an empty bin) during the harvest cycle is somewhat loud but infrequent & really a non-issue.Doors can open wider so be careful not to open them into nearby items like pantry doors or an open dishwasher.Costs less.CONSLeveling system is no better, just two leveling feet in the front, fridge wobbles like the LG, will try using shims towards the back to help stabilize.Lighting is not as bright as the LG since food items tend to block a lot of it, lighting does ramp up on this one.Exterior fit & finish is good but the LG has the edge there. For those with pets, periodically accessing & cleaning the condenser coil on any fridge is a must, this one is more difficult to complete that task than the LG.A lot of people complain about the drawers not opening far enough but they DO open ANOTHER increment if you open the doors all the way, in that case they open plenty. Limiting how wide they open for normal use helps prevent stress & potential for breakage. We are totally OK with this design. The drawer rollers aren't as smooth as the LG.I hope this helps :^)

5Now that all my isses have been resolved... I love it!!!
By John McGee
I bought this LG Refrigerator from Dynamic deals on Amazon. They buy the refrigerator from a business called Appliance Palace in Linden NJ. Appliance Palace then uses a shipping company called AM Home Delivery. You can figure that out after it is shipped to you and you look at the invoice.I had paid for expedited shipping, but I found out it was not going to get to me on time, so I had to reschedule. They did indeed refund me the difference in cost for expedited delivery to normal delivery. When it did come, it was on time, and the drive called me a half hour before delivery as requested. The drivers are excellent!! They took the refrigerator out of the truck and right away took it out of its box to inspect it for damage. He seen the left door was indeed dented and he gave me great advice on how to handle a damaged item, to the best of his ability. They then took it in my house with great care, and put it where it was to be plugged in. They plugged it in and took all the packaging out and plugged it in to assure it was working. Great job!!!Now came the fun part. The next business day I called the number that was on the shipping receipt only to get nowhere. It just rang, and rang, and rang… After a few days of this I finally got a hold of someone in a totally different department and found out that they just contract out the sale, or some such thing to Appliance Palace. After finding this out, I then noticed their name on the shipping receipt. Having no phone number for them, I had to look it up myself. The gentleman that answered was very nice and gave me instructions on what to do to get my door replaced. I heard nothing for about a week and called again. Again they were very nice and said it was all in the works. After a few weeks of waiting I was contacted by LGE and asked to send proof of damage, sales receipt and shipping receipt. They then contacted me a few days later and offered me a few solutions, very much to my satisfaction. To sum it up, with some running around and jumping through hoops, I am very happy with my purchase.I would just hope that when you are sold something, you should not have to go “looking” for the people that actually sold you the items.Dynamic Marketing Inc. needs to do a better job at relaying this to their customers…. and try answering your phone once and a while…. lame
